Kennesaw State University is offering a Massive Open Online Course, or MOOC,
starting January 13, 2015 through Coursera.
This course offers insights and skill upgrades to your blended and online teaching knowledge and experience; it also offers 5 Professional Learning Units (PLUs) for Georgia teachers at no cost!
Partial credit of 2 PLUs will be awarded to Georgia teachers who successfully completed the first 4 weeks at 80%, but do not continue on to earn a Coursera Statement of Accomplishment. The second portion of this course includes 30 contact hours for 3 additional PLUs. This portion provides participants with the opportunity to show competence in evaluating and creating K-12 blended and online learning experiences. Updated Jan 12,2015 it looks like this year the course is one unit and offers five PLUs as the only option. We still encourage you to sign up and attempt the work if you think you are interested. There is NO penalty for signing up to see if you can handle the coursework and then dropping the course. If you are interested yet leery I suggest planning on attending the weekly support meetings within Hall County.
The course instructors Dr. Anissa Lokey-Vega (@LokeyVega) and Jordan P. Cameron (@jlpcam) facilitate a course which provides details to how to move instruction online. These instructors also work to incorporate social media into the course. If you search hashtags #KSUitecMOOC and #K12BlendedLearning you will find a great deal of insight into course components.
Registration happens through Coursera, the participant completes forms through KSU and then in turn sends paperwork to district PL for recording.
Typically Coursera courses offer the ability to sign-up for a course late. If the first date of class has passed you may still be able to sign up!
